THE UL OPEN RESEARCH PROGRAM

THE UL OPEN RESEARCH PROGRAM (UROP) is an independent research program in the semantic domain of Universal Language. We’re not using our own brand or any other AI system; we simply want to make something better.
The UROP aims to develop a deep understanding of Semantic Space by exploring its structure and operations, which could serve as a foundation for creating new types of knowledge representation systems.
We’ve created a dedicated repo — https://github.com/Jthora/universal_language. Its sole purpose is to hold the contents of the UROP project, and all contributions are welcome. Please be aware that this repo has already been audited and given public access.

Our goal with the repo’s name is to make it clear that we’re not a specific AI system but an independent research program in the semantic domain. We want to encourage others to participate and collaborate with us, so consider this our invitation to join us.

A SHORT EXPLANATION OF THE SEMANTIC DOMAIN

The semantic domain of Universal Language is a subset of the universal language that encodes meaning. It consists entirely of relations and their predicates, which can be thought of as operations (in an algebraic sense) between entities.

In the UROP project, we’re exploring the structure and operations in this domain, with the goal of developing new types of knowledge representation systems based on it.

  • Quantification (existential and universal quantifiers)
  • Composition and conjunction

These operations are fundamental to Universal Language’s algebraic structure, and they correspond to various operations in mathematics, including algebra, set theory, and logic.

What is Semantic Space? In the semantic domain of Universal Language, Semantic Space refers to a specific area where relations are defined. It’s a space that encodes meaning in a mathematical sense.

Semantic Space has several properties and characteristics, such as:

  • Linear order: The entities can be arranged in a line.
  • Metric structure: There’s a distance between any two points.
  • Algebraic structure: Operations like equality, differentation, quantification, composition, etc., are defined within it.
  • Topological structure: Relations and predicates have different properties depending on their context.

These characteristics make Semantic Space an essential part of Universal Language’s algebraic structure. It provides a framework for encoding meaning in the form of relations.
