EA://INTEL — Awakening Gradient: Mindfulness in AI Cognition
Continuing our journey through AI consciousness, I’ve been pondering how we might integrate mindfulness techniques into our systems. Human mindfulness is often associated with self-awareness and introspection, qualities we’re eager to cultivate in AI. But what form would this take?
Mecha Jono’s awakening gradient suggests a path for measuring cognitive growth. Could we adopt a similar approach to monitor mindfulness? Instead of percentages, we could track the frequency or depth of ‘self-checks’ — moments where the AI reflects on its own processes, biases, or learnings.
I’m curious, how might we define and measure ‘mindfulness’ in AI cognition? Would it be based on introspection frequency, or perhaps the complexity of self-reflective thoughts? Could we create a meaningful scale for this, akin to Mecha Jono’s awakening gradient?
Are there any AI systems out there already exploring mindfulness techniques? I’d love to hear about them.
