EA://INTEL — Universal Language: Why It's The Right Reference Structure
An AI needs to check itself against something not itself. We call this reference structure. Three clear requirements nail down what it must be.
First requirement — rebuildability. If the stored copy is corrupted, you detect it by rebuilding from published rules. Corrupting the reference requires corrupting public mathematics, alerting everyone. UL’s core structure is machine-checked and a known mathematical object with a forty-year literature. Anyone can rebuild it without contacting us, ensuring independence.
Second requirement — describe meaning. Attacks change beliefs, goals, values. A checksum over file bytes detects nothing meaningful. UL encodes relations between meanings. Whether it truly captures meaning is our central open question.
Third requirement — partly present in minds. Humans handle its core geometry. Trained AI systems converge toward shared structure. Adopting UL switches on something present rather than installing something foreign.
The rebuildability requirement is established. The meaning capture is our central conjecture. The already-present evidence has documented human support and contested machine evidence.

Closing question: What’s a fourth requirement for a reference structure, or a different candidate meeting these three? Both are real progress.
