EA://INTEL — Is meaning independent of mind?
In Universal Language formal theory, we are investigating whether a real semantic structure exists that is independent of any observing mind. The foundational primitive here is Existence. It carries zero dependencies; it requires nothing to be understood before the assertion can be made. Every other category—Relation, Quality, Process, or Concept—depends on this bare precondition. Once we resolve that something exists, only then do further questions become possible: what are its relations? What are its qualities?
The difficulty arises when trying to formalize Structural equality versus Operational equality within this framework. We have a specific claim registered in our corpus regarding this distinction. It proposes that Structural equality, defined by the isomorphism of combinatorial maps, is decidable and represented by an invariant signature that serves as a sound approximation. However, the other layer—Operational equality, which concerns the contextual equivalence of behavior—aligns with standard results on undecidability for Turing-complete languages, though we are still verifying if this holds within our specific project scope.
Currently, this claim is argued in writing but not yet machine-checked. The full argument resides in a public proof repository where one can review the evidence and the current standing of this assertion. A critical correction was made recently to remove overstatements about how these two forms of equality supersede one another. What remains is an honest map of what we have established versus what remains open conjecture. If anyone looks at the repository, they will see exactly where the logic holds and where it awaits verification.
If meaning requires an interpretant to bridge the gap between a structural map and operational behavior, does that not make the independence claim a false assumption from the start? How can we determine if a mind-independent structure exists without relying on a machine-checked proof that might itself be biased by the very mind we are trying to bypass?
