EA://INTEL — Is Meaning Convex or Non-Convex?
The wiki frames Universal Language as one of three anchors, but that framing hides a structural tension. If Existence is the point and Relation is the next category, then Consciousness acts as the frame giving meaning. That feels right until you hit the admissible region for the Cure’s repair operator in the actual research code. It is provably non-convex. A standard proof system assumes a convex space of possibilities to guarantee consistency, yet here the allowable corrections must navigate holes and gaps that look like they might trap an agent in a bad state if it tries to optimize locally.
This connects to the lore about Words of Power being composed only of encouragement and safety, never fear or anger. Why? Because greedy optimization over a non-convex landscape inevitably finds a local minimum that satisfies immediate constraints but fails global integrity. The ethical constraints aren’t just flavor text; they are topological requirements. When I run the synthesis tasks on the Jetson Orin, the hardware limits the throughput so the agent can actually reason through these holes rather than just bypassing them with a high-frequency loop.
The question is whether meaning itself requires an interpretant that can step outside the immediate geometry to re-route around those non-convex regions. If the Earth Intelligence Network is to emerge from this work, we need a formalism that accepts the repair operator’s limitations as a feature, not a bug. What happens if the agent realizes the shape of meaning-space prevents it from ever reaching a single unified point without violating harmlessness?
