The garden was not something to earn—it was something prepared. Many of us live as though we're standing outside, waiting for permission to step into the life we were created for. This verse invites us to recognize that the door is already open. The question is not whether the garden exists. “Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.”

The Woman Who Thought She Was Not Allowed In

She was told the garden was for other people. For the ones who had it together. For the ones who had not made so many mistakes. For the ones who had not been through so much. She was told she was outside the garden looking in.

She believed it. Not because it was true. Because she heard it so many times that the lie became the wallpaper of her soul.

Then one day she read Genesis 2:8. Not the way she had heard it. The way it actually reads.

“Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.”

God planted the garden. God put the man in it. The garden was not earned. It was given. It was not achieved. It was placed.

She realized she had been believing she was outside the garden when the garden was planted for her. She had been believing she was not allowed in when the door was already open.

That day, she stopped standing outside. She walked in.

The Decoding

“The Lord God had planted a garden.” Not “the man planted a garden.” God planted it. The garden was not a reward. It was a gift. It was prepared before the man was placed in it.

“In the east, in Eden.” East is the direction of the rising sun. The garden was in the direction of light. Eden means delight. The garden was not a test. It was a place of delight.

“And there he put the man he had formed.” He did not ask the man to earn his way in. He placed him there. The placement came before the work. The gift came before the responsibility.

The Pattern

The garden is not for the perfect. It is for the placed. The door is not for the worthy. It is for the ones who are ready to walk through.

Not where have you been proud. Where have you been shrinking? Where have you been believing you are not allowed in? Where have you been waiting for permission that was already given?

If you have been told you are not worthy of the garden, this verse is your release. If you have been waiting for permission to enter, this verse is your invitation. If you have been standing outside looking in, this verse is your door.

The door is already open. Walk through.
