"Use open protocols, abondon permissioned API's" talk proposal for Open Source conference Luxembourg

During the next Open Source Conference Luxembourg happening the 7th of October '26 there is a new track called 'Decentralised technologies'. Some of the main aspects of this track are 'Decentralized platforms for video, chat, communications, code, etc.' and 'Interoperability for resilience'. It's obvious there is a match with Nostr here. That's why I've submitted this 30-min talk proposal (some other nostriches did the same with different topics).
"Use open protocols, abondon permissioned API's" talk proposal for Open Source conference Luxembourg

Proposal Title: Use open protocols, abondon permissioned API’s

Session type: Talk (30min)

Anyone can build an email client, because the protocols behind it are not owned by a single entity and you don’t need any permission to use it. Why are we not building social media clients (and more) in the same way? We don’t need platforms and their permission to use their API’s to communicate freely. We have ActivityPub, AT Protocol and also Nostr. This talk will share the basic technical details how Nostr as a protocol and network works. In the second part of the talk some bridging technologies are highlighted how data can flow between the nostrverse, fediverse and atmosphere. And in the last part (if there is enough time with the Q&A) some interesting applications will be showcased from the nostrverse.

Some showcased nostr applications:

  • divine.video
  • shosho.live
  • yakihonne.com
  • flotilla.com
  • bichat.free
  • cordn.net
  • whitenoise.chat
  • fountain.fm
  • armada.buzz
  • conduite.market
  • zapstore.dev
  • ditto.pub
  • gitworkshop.dev
  • shakespeare.diy
  • readwithboris.com

Nostr is an open protocol for censorship resistant publication and social networking.
Nostr has no official website, but currently details and discussions about the protocol can be found in the Github NIPs repository: https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips. Some other trustworthy Nostr resources are:
