"The Steel Serpent" – First Impressions
Park Guest Journal: “The Steel Serpent” – First Impressions
I’ve been wandering around Forest Frontiers for three hours now, mostly surviving on a diet of oversized fries and lukewarm soda. But then I saw it: the silhouette of The Steel Serpent towering over the trees.
I’ve got some thoughts. Mostly because I’ve been standing in this queue for 45 minutes and the entertainer in the panda suit just walked away right when it was my turn to be cheered up.
The Stats
The park map says this thing is a marvel of engineering, but all I see is a lot of green-painted steel and a very steep drop. Here’s the breakdown according to the rumor mill near the Information Kiosk:
- Excitement Rating: Very High (8.45)
- Intensity Rating: High (7.10)
- Nausea Rating: Medium (3.20) — Thank goodness, I just ate a burger from ‘Burger Bar 1’.
The Experience
“I want to go on something more exciting than The Steel Serpent.” — Some guy named Simon V. who clearly has a death wish.
Personally? I think it’s plenty exciting. The lift hill is agonizingly slow. You get to the top, and for a split second, you can see the edge of the map where the grass just… ends in a void of blue. Then, the drop happens. It’s a vertical plunge that made my stomach trade places with my lungs.
We hit two vertical loops and a corkscrew. I’m pretty sure I saw my life flash before my eyes, or maybe that was just the photo-section flash. I’m definitely buying the on-ride photo for $3.50.
The Verdict
The Good:
- The layout is incredible; it weaves right over the main path.
- The queue line has some nice “Abstract Art” sculptures to look at.
- The music is that catchy, synthesized carousel tune that plays everywhere in this park.
The Bad:
- The ticket price is $6.00. My pockets are feeling a little light.
- The pathing near the exit is a bit confusing; I saw five people walking in circles saying they were lost.
- I’m starting to get hungry again.
Final Thought
The Steel Serpent is great value! I’d ride it again, but I think I need to find a bathroom first. Does anyone know where the nearest one is? I’ve been walking for ten minutes and all I see are souvenir stalls selling red umbrellas.
