It’s 4:20am, you can’t sleep, you’re bored, and you find yourself in this situation:

  • There’s a crypto project that you kind of find mildly interesting, maybe.
  • You’d like to look at it, but you don’t want to be seen by bitcoin maximalists as messing around with it because it’s “crypto” not bitcoin.
  • And yet, it’s still there, sitting there looking at you, you still wonder, and you know it’s okay to just look. It’s an itch unscratched.

So, here’s the play:

  • Make a burner Nostr account. Just to nostrtool.com, click “Generate new key”, then save the nsec safely. That’s your new Nostr account.
  • Mess around with Nostrcoin completely anonymously, no one will know.
  • You can still come back here with your usual account and look cool by mocking with something like, “It’s a scam! It’s $#!7coinery!” It’s okay, it’s a win-win: you get to take a look, you get to look cool.

Why Nostrcoin?

  • It’s like bitcoin in that it is truly proof-of-work (no pre-mine, no -ICO, no coins for devs, etc.).
  • It’s like bitcoin in emissions, block production (every 10 minutes), supply (21 million, 8 decimals), halving schedule.
  • It’s like bitcoin in decentralization (actually, it’s not yet, but will be once more indexers are online).
  • It’s unique in that it runs on the Nostr protocol. Mined blocks, balances, and transactions are broadcast to Nostr relays as events.
  • It’s very new. Currently it’s in the “Satoshi and Hal Finney” stages of development. It’s just a baby so the unique opportunity exists to get involved in the project in its infancy.
  • There is no money involved (no “investment”, token purchase nonsense, etc.). The project is solely for education and the pure fun of it.

https://nostrcoin.netlify.app has all the info (README, whitepaper, block explorer, wallet, forum, etc.). An alternate URL is https://saccoci.github.io (this is what the netlify URL points to).

Drop a hello here and I’ll send you 5 NSTC, just like the old bitcoin faucet.
