When I compare prop firm plans, I try not to stop at the evaluation price. The number that changes my decision is often the activation fee after I pass. Some plans advertise a low starting cost, then charge a separate amount to move me into a funded account. That fee can be small, or it can be large enough to reset the whole comparison.

I read the funded section before I pay anything. I look for when the activation fee is charged, whether it is refundable, and whether it replaces or adds to the evaluation fee. I also check if the fee changes by account size or if a reset or new evaluation changes it. If the wording is vague, I ask support and keep the answer.

Then I map the total cost to first payout. I use hypothetical numbers to keep it concrete. Say an evaluation costs $100, activation is $150, the platform fee is $30 a month, and the first payout is available after 10 trading days. My rough cost to first payout is $280. If the first payout takes a full month and another monthly fee lands, I add that too. If there is a minimum payout threshold, I note it, but I do not assume it is met.

  • Evaluation fee: one-time, before I start
  • Activation fee: after passing, before funded trading
  • Monthly or platform fee: until payout
  • Data or software fee: if it applies

I keep these in a simple table so I compare the same thing across plans. A plan with a higher activation fee can still be cheaper if its monthly costs are lower and the first payout comes sooner. The reverse is also true.

Before I commit, I check the provider’s own current terms, because fees and payout rules can change. I also like to line up the funded-stage details side by side, and I use compare futures prop firm plans as a starting point for that. My rule is simple: I count every dollar from evaluation through first payout, not just the headline fee.
