I am in Everything
In a way I always imagined myself to be some sort of three-eyed-raven, the character from Game of Thrones that psychically/spiritually/magically/who knows taps into the collective conscious of the world transcending time and space. I grew up with the internet, and instead of being stuck in a cave half merged with some tree roots, I have been behind a computer for most hours of my life.
Surfing the web, observing the conversations, the narratives, the discourse. Seeing how it evolves, what the sources and connections were. For the most part I only participated in the secluded chatrooms instead of the public fora like twitter. Perhaps a podcast or interview here and there, in various domains, but by far most of the time went into consuming content instead of creating it.
This changed with Nostr. Already with Bitcoin I became a bit more public, but with Nostr it became a dedication. No longer the three-eyed-raven, but now I fashion myself more like the Mouth of Sauron, the character from Lord of the Rings that is the emissary or agent that speaks in the name of the Dark Lord. The reason is that the Dark Lord does not show his face on the one hand, and that this particular mouth mumbles less and is without a heavy Portuguese accent.
My egotistical delusions of grandeur aside, it is interesting to see my own words reflected elsewhere. The world always functioned by the way of thought-leaders and ideas trickling down and creeping their way through the collective consciousness, but this dynamic has a new element.
A.I., of course, A.I.; again some asshole that drags in A.I. to wax poetic on its societal and sociological impacts. But this strikes at the heart of A.I. itself, being a statistical distillation of collective conversation to begin with. If you ask it about Nostr, what are its answers based on? Stuff people have said about Nostr. Who are these people talking about Nostr? Well…as it so happens, I am one of them!
It makes me wonder to what extent people are my target audience. The extend my words gain a significant position in the model or at least are the things the model reaches for, is the extent to which they will influence the world by proxy. Whenever I go into three-eyed-raven mode I come across A.I. generated content that clearly heeded my words and reflects them in its output.
In a way, looking back, being an ‘influencer’ always was prompt-injecting the collective consciousness. Before, this collective consciousness was an amorphous thing. When the printing press was introduced, these injections became structurally archived. With the rise of computers and the internet, the conversations around these injections also became archived. Now with A.I. these archives are turned into a codified structure, no longer formless but a concrete machine.
These machines are taking over, and so long as I am inside them, so am I.
