Easter stress test: ‘Christian nationalism’ didn’t hold
What looked like Christian nationalism on the surface for all these years is actually disposable religious branding under pressure.
On Easter morning, Trump posted:
“Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards… Praise be to Allah.” — Truth Social, Apr. 5, 2026
That matters for a reason bigger than hypocrisy.
The Christian-right bargain has always depended on a claim of spiritual alignment:
God chose the ruler the ruler protects the tribe therefore loyalty feels righteous
But pressure from a war-driven oil shock stress-tests the frame.
And under pressure, the constraint disappears:
Christian symbolism when useful Muslim praise language when useful war talk when useful golf on Easter Sunday, with no public church service on the schedule
That tells you what is governing.
Not doctrine. Not reverence. Not even basic theological coherence.
Power is governing. Audience management is governing.
That’s the mechanism I’ve been writing about:
Cyrus gives permission to bless the ruler https://stacker.news/items/1455053/r/Yermin
“Raised up by God” turns support into perceived calling https://stacker.news/items/1462054/r/Yermin
Esther language sacralizes the conflict https://stacker.news/items/1463303/r/Yermin
Same grammar. Different use case.
Spiritual language is not there to constrain the man. It is there to condition the audience.
And once you see that, moments like this stop looking random.
They become diagnostic.
Because if “Christian leader” branding evaporates the second pressure hits, then it was never a governing conviction.
It was a tool.
And the church that keeps baptizing that tool is not discipling people into fidelity.
It is discipling them into political idolatry with flexible theology.
