55:60 Ar-Rahmaan
Is the reward for doing good [anything] but good?
Being grateful to God continuously is great. However, there is a misconception for many (especially in western countries) that they think that if they ask God (supplicate him) for something, they prayed and it’s enough. The prayer in Islam is different from supplication and it must be performed as we will be questioned about it on Judgement Day.
In fact the Salat (the Islamic prayer composed of reciting some surahs of the Quran as well as following other steps) or mentioning God by reading the Quran as well as Tasbeih (glorifying Allah as well as thanking him etc.) are all forms of prayers different from supplications that are well rewarded as good actions written in the book if the person performing them.
And when My servants ask you, [O Mohamed], about Me (Allah) - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.
2:43 Al-Baqara
And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience].
20:130 Taa-Haa
So be patient over what they say and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and during periods of the night [exalt Him] and at the ends of the day, that you may be satisfied.
20:131 Taa-Haa
And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [some] categories of them, [its being but] the splendor of worldly life by which We test them. And the provision of your Lord is better and more enduring.
20:132 Taa-Haa
And enjoin prayer upon your family [and people] and be steadfast therein. We ask you not for provision; We provide for you, and the [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness.
7:204 Al-A’raaf
So when the Qur’an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy.
7:205 Al-A’raaf
And remember your Lord within yourself in humility and in fear without being apparent in speech - in the mornings and the evenings. And do not be among the heedless.
7:206 Al-A’raaf
Indeed, those who are near your Lord are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, and they exalt Him, and to Him they prostrate.
27:91 An-Naml
[Say, O Muhammad], “I have only been commanded to worship the Lord of this city, who made it sacred and to whom [belongs] all things. And I am commanded to be of the Muslims [those who submit to Allah]
27:92 An-Naml
And to recite the Qur’an.“ And whoever is guided is only guided for [the benefit of] himself; and whoever strays - say, “I am only [one] of the warners.”
27:93 An-Naml
And say, “[All] praise is [due] to Allah. He will show you His signs, and you will recognize them. And your Lord is not unaware of what you do.”
God, Allah, is the lost merciful and he likes to be called upon in supplications too. However, the day of Allah is one thousands years of ours so the answer of the prayer can take time.
And your Lord says, “Call upon Me; I will respond to you.” Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.
41:49 Fussilat
Man is not weary of supplication for good [things], but if evil touches him, he is hopeless and despairing.
41:50 Fussilat
And if We let him taste mercy from Us after an adversity which has touched him, he will surely say, “This is [due] to me, and I do not think the Hour (end of the world) will occur; and [even] if I should be returned to my Lord, indeed, for me there will be with Him the best.” But We will surely inform those who disbelieved about what they did, and We will surely make them taste a massive punishment.
41:51 Fussilat
And when We bestow favor upon man, he turns away and distances himself; but when evil touches him, then he is full of extensive supplication.
People are meant to be tested in life even by losses so they shouldn’t be ungrateful even when they have some as the ones answering with patience and holding on to the faith in Allah while mentioning, praying for him (performing Salat) and thanking him for whatever he decrees (as it has wisdom), will be rewarded as mentioned in the following verses.
29:1 Al-Ankaboot
الم
Alif, Lam, Meem
29:2 Al-Ankaboot
Do the people think that they will be left to say, “We believe (in Allah) “ and they will not be tested?
29:3 Al-Ankaboot
But We have certainly tested those before them, and Allah will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars.
29:4 Al-Ankaboot
Or do those who do evil deeds think they can outrun Us? Wrong is what they judge.
2:155 Al-Baqara
And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,
2:156 Al-Baqara
Who, when disaster strikes them, say, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.”
2:157 Al-Baqara
Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.
42:27 Ash-Shura
And if Allah had extended [excessively] provision for His servants, they would have committed tyranny throughout the earth. But He sends [it] down in an amount which He wills. Indeed He is, of His servants, Acquainted and Seeing.
42:28 Ash-Shura
And it is He who sends down the rain after they had despaired and spreads His mercy. And He is the Protector, the Praiseworthy.
It’s advised to ask Allah for pardon and with difficulty there is ease.
It was narrated from Mu’adh bin Jabal that the Prophet (ﷺ) passed by a man who was saying: “O Allah, I ask You for patience (as-Sabr).” The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “You have asked Allah for trial (hardship), so ask Him for Al-Afiyah (well-being/protection and pardon).” (Narrated by Jami` at-Tirmidhi).
Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.
How to thank God when you are given a lot?
By all means, don’t do like Qaruon. Don’t think that what you have is because of how clever you are or fortunate and you must thank God by giving for charity, praying and mentioning God as explained above; “do good as Allah has done good to you”.
Indeed, Qaruon was from the people of Moses, but he tyrannized them. And We gave him of treasures whose keys would burden a band of strong men; thereupon his people said to him, “Do not exult. Indeed, Allah does not like the exultant.
28:77 Al-Qasas
But seek, through that which Allah has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world. And do good as Allah has done good to you. And desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, Allah does not like corrupters.“
28:78 Al-Qasas
He said, “I was only given it because of knowledge I have.” Did he not know that Allah had destroyed before him of generations those who were greater than him in power and greater in accumulation [of wealth]? But the criminals, about their sins, will not be asked.
28:79 Al-Qasas
So he came out before his people in his adornment. Those who desired the worldly life said, “Oh, would that we had like what was given to Qaruon. Indeed, he is one of great fortune.”
28:80 Al-Qasas
But those who had been given knowledge said, “Woe to you! The reward of Allah is better for he who believes and does righteousness. And none are granted it except the patient.”
28:81 Al-Qasas
And We caused the earth to swallow him and his home. And there was for him no company to aid him other than Allah, nor was he of those who [could] defend themselves.
28:82 Al-Qasas
And those who had wished for his position the previous day began to say, “Oh, how Allah extends provision to whom He wills of His servants and restricts it! If not that Allah had conferred favor on us, He would have caused it to swallow us. Oh, how the disbelievers do not succeed!”
28:83 Al-Qasas
That home of the Hereafter We assign to those who do not desire exaltedness upon the earth or corruption. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous.
28:84 Al-Qasas
Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have better than it; and whoever comes with an evil deed - then those who did evil deeds will not be recompensed except [as much as] what they used to do.
28:85 Al-Qasas
Indeed, [O Mohamed], He (Allah) who imposed upon you the Qur’an will take you back to a place of return. Say, “My Lord is most knowing of who brings guidance and who is clearly lost.”
28:86 Al-Qasas
And you were not expecting that the Book would be conveyed to you, but [it is] a mercy from your Lord. So do not be an assistant to the disbelievers.
28:87 Al-Qasas
And never let them avert you from the verses of Allah after they have been revealed to you. And invite [people] to your Lord. And never be of those who associate others with Allah.
28:88 Al-Qasas
And do not invoke with Allah another deity. There is no deity except Him. Everything will be destroyed except His Face. His is the judgement, and to Him you will be returned.
There is always the reward in the Hereafter although many people can’t see further than their nose (this life). But if you know the rewards for doing good by any mean in the Hereafter, you might ask for less next when you pray (supplicate for worldly things).
Only those believe in Our verses who, when they are reminded by them, fall down in prostration and exalt [Allah] with praise of their Lord, and they are not arrogant.
32:16 As-Sajda
They arise from [their] beds; they supplicate their Lord in fear and aspiration, and from what We have provided them, they spend.
32:17 As-Sajda
And no soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort for eyes as reward for what they used to do.
32:18 As-Sajda
Then is one who was a believer like one who was defiantly disobedient? They are not equal.
32:19 As-Sajda
As for those who believed and did righteous deeds, for them will be the Gardens of Refuge as accommodation for what they used to do.
32:20 As-Sajda
But as for those who defiantly disobeyed, their refuge is the Fire. Every time they wish to emerge from it, they will be returned to it while it is said to them, “Taste the punishment of the Fire which you used to deny.”
Even the words have a reward if kind as they are not equal to unkind ones.
Have you not considered how Allah presents an example, [making] a good word like a good tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches [high] in the sky?
14:25 Ibrahim
It produces its fruit all the time, by permission of its Lord. And Allah presents examples for the people that perhaps they will be reminded.
14:26 Ibrahim
And the example of a bad word is like a bad tree, uprooted from the surface of the earth, not having any stability.
14:27 Ibrahim
Allah keeps firm those who believe, with the firm word, in worldly life and in the Hereafter. And Allah sends astray the wrongdoers. And Allah does what He wills.
So don’t wait too long before you thank God and don’t let accumulation of worldly things keep you busy from praying (performing Salat or mentioning God).
- At-Takaathur
Competition in [worldly] increase kept you busy (diverted you).
Until you visit the graveyards (because of own death or to visit a dead person).
