The first word that was delivered was, “Read”, in the first verse of surah Al-Alaq.

Read, in the name of your Lord who created -

The prophet Mohamed Peace be upon him was alone praying in the cave of Hira’ nearby Mecca the first time the Angel Gabriel came to deliver the first word. So he answered, “I am unable to read” and God had the wisdom to choose him because the Quran should have never been attributed to the person it’s delivered to. As the Quran itself came defying the fluency of the Arabs of that time that could compose immediate complex poetry effortlessly as they speak in and for every occasion, however, amazed by the linguistic richness of Quran and unable to come with anything similar.

The Quran, words of God (Allah), was delivered in Arabic and it is one of its miracles more than 1400 years ago by the Angel Gabriel to prophet Mohamed peace be upon, however little is known about Islam by many people around the world despite living in a so called intellectual era.

[It is] an Arabic Qur’an, without any distortion that they might become righteous.

18:109 Al-Kahf

Say, “If the sea were ink for [writing] the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted (finish) before the words of my Lord were exhausted (finish), even if We brought the like of it as a supplement.”

17:88 Al-Israa

Say, “If mankind and the jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Qur’an, they could not produce anything like it, even if they were to each other assistants.”

17:89 Al-Israa

And We have certainly diversified for the people in this Qur’an from every [kind] of example, but most of the people refused [anything] except disbelief.

Shaking, the prophet Mohamed peace be upon him ran home and his wife Khadija covered him with a garment and then the next Surah was delivered.

  1. Al-Muddaththir

O you who covers himself [with a garment],

Arise and warn

And your Lord glorify

And your clothing purify

And uncleanliness avoid

And do not confer favor to acquire more

But for your Lord be patient.

And when the trumpet is blown,

That Day will be a difficult day

For the disbelievers - not easy.

Leave Me with the one I created alone

And to whom I granted extensive wealth

And children present [with him]

And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life].

Then he desires that I should add more.

No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate.

I will cover him with arduous torment.

Indeed, he thought and deliberated.

So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.

Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.

Then he considered [again];

Then he frowned and scowled;

Then he turned back and was arrogant

And said, “This is not but magic imitated [from others].

This is not but the word of a human being.“

I will drive him into Saqar.

And what can make you know what is Saqar?

It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned],

Blackening the skins.

Over it are nineteen [angels].

And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, “What does Allah intend by this as an example?” Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity.

No! By the moon

And [by] the night when it departs

And [by] the morning when it brightens,

Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions]

As a warning to humanity -

To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind.

Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained

Except the companions of the right,

[Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other

About the criminals,

[And asking them], “What put you into Saqar (Hellfire)?”

They will say, “We were not of those who prayed,

Nor did we used to feed the poor.

And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it],

And we used to deny the Day of Recompense

Until there came to us the certainty.“

So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors.

Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away

As if they were alarmed donkeys

Fleeing from a lion?

Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about.

No! But they do not fear the Hereafter.

No! Indeed, the Qur’an is a reminder

Then whoever wills will remember it.

And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness.

So the prophet Mohamed peace be upon him started inviting the closest people to him to the Islamic and kept on delivering the message until his death. And the Muslim are still following his example in spreading the knowledge they learned from Quran and Sunnah (reported Hadiths and manners/wisdom of the prophet Mohamed peace be upon him) until today.

26:213 Ash-Shu’araa

So do not invoke with Allah another deity and [thus] be among the punished.

26:214 Ash-Shu’araa

And warn, [O Mohamed], your closest kindred.

26:215 Ash-Shu’araa

And lower your wing (be kind) to those who follow you of the believers.

2:151 Al-Baqara

Just as We have sent among you a messenger from yourselves reciting to you Our verses and purifying you and teaching you the Book and wisdom and teaching you that which you did not know.

2:152 Al-Baqara

So remember Me (Allah); I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.

Through the words of God in the Quran a lot can be known about Him and in the following verse some descriptions of Him.

Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi (footstool) extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

Seeing God has been a curiosity of prophets themselves and in the following examples of what happened when prophet Moses, peace be upon him, or his people asked so.
7:143 Al-A’raaf

And when Moses arrived at Our appointed time and his Lord spoke to him, he said, “My Lord, show me [Yourself] that I may look at You.” [Allah] said, “You will not see Me, but look at the mountain; if it should remain in place, then you will see Me.” But when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He rendered it level, and Moses fell unconscious. And when he awoke, he said, “Exalted are You! I have repented to You, and I am the first of the believers.”

2:55 Al-Baqara

And [recall] when you said, “O Moses, we will never believe you until we see Allah outright”; so the thunderbolt took you while you were looking.

2:56 Al-Baqara

Then We revived you after your death that perhaps you would be grateful.

In fact eyesights can’t reach God as in the following verses.

6:102 Al-An’aam

That is Allah, your Lord; there is no deity except Him, the Creator of all things, so worship Him. And He is Disposer of all things.

6:103 Al-An’aam

Eyesights (or visions) do not reach (or perceive him) Him, but He reaches (or perceives) [all] eyesights (visions); and He is the Subtle, the Acquainted.

6:104 Al-An’aam

There has come to you eyesights (or enlightenments) from your Lord. So whoever will see does so for [the benefit of] his soul, and whoever is blind [does harm] against it. And [say], “I am not controlling (or a guardian) over you.”

42:11 Ash-Shura

[He is] Creator of the heavens and the earth. He has made for you from yourselves, mates, and among the cattle, mates; He multiplies you thereby. There is nothing like Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.

Allah is one of the Islamic names of God; the creator of everything. Not associating with God, Allah, any other and worshipping him alone is one of the first known facts in Islam.

  1. Al-Ikhlaas
Say, “He is Allah, [who is] One,
    Allah, the Eternal Refuge.
He neither begets nor is born,
Nor is there to Him any equivalent.”

Another name of God is the Truth, the Islam is the religion of truth and prophet Mohamed peace be upon him was chosen to invite the people to Islam.

And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allah untruth while he is being invited to Islam. And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.

61:8 As-Saff

They want to extinguish (turn off) the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, although the disbelievers dislike it.

61:9 As-Saff

It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion, although those who associate others with Allah dislike it.

Humans were given a trust, it’s to populate the earth while having the ability to choose between right and wrong.

Indeed, we offered the Trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, and they declined to bear it and feared it; but man [undertook to] bear it. Indeed, he was unjust and ignorant.

Although our souls testified before the creation that God (Allah) is our creator, he sent messengers and books to guide us.

7:172 Al-A’raaf

And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], “Am I not your Lord?” They said, “Yes, we have testified.” [This] - lest you should say on the day of Resurrection, “Indeed, we were of this unaware.”

God likes that who believes in him submits to him willingly. The heavens and the earth, known to have consciousness in Islam, submitted to him before us.

41:9 Fussilat

Say, “Do you indeed disbelieve in He who created the earth in two days and attribute to Him equals? That is the Lord of the worlds.”

41:10 Fussilat

And He placed on the earth firmly set mountains over its surface, and He blessed it and determined therein its [creatures’] sustenance in four days without distinction - for [the information] of those who ask.

41:11 Fussilat

Then He directed Himself to the heaven while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, “Come, willingly or by compulsion”, they said, “We came willingly.”

40:57 Al-Ghaafir

The creation of the heavens and earth is greater than the creation of mankind, but most of the people do not know.

It’s important to have knowledge of what is talked about in the Quran and Hadiths of the prophet Mohamed peace be upon him as in the following verses and to keep good education and manners.

From 20:114 Taa-Haa
and say, “My Lord, increase me in knowledge.”

Surah Al-Israa:
Verse 36:
And don’t pursue (i.e., do not say, or do not stand for or do not witness, etc.) what you have no knowledge of. Verily! The hearing, and the sight, and the heart, of each of those you will be questioned (by Allah).

Surah Al-Israa:
Verse 53
And say to My servants (mankind created by God) that they should (only) say the best words. (Because) Shaitan (Satan) verily, sows disagreements among them. Surely, Shaitan (Satan) is to man a plain enemy.

Surah Luqman:
Verse 17:
“O my son (said Luqman, peace be upon him) ! Aqim-is-Salat (perform As-Salat; prayers), enjoin (people) for Al-Ma’ruf (all that is good), and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (all that is evil and bad), and bear with patience whatever befall you. Verily! These are some of the important commandments ordered by Allah with no exemption.
Verse 18:
“And don’t turn your face away from men with pride, and don’t walk in insolence through the earth. Verily, Allah does not love each arrogant (prideful) boaster.
Verse 19:
“And be moderate (or show no insolence) in your walking, and lower your voice. Verily, the harshest of all voices is the voice of the donkey.”

In Islam we believe in God’s messengers and his books, Torah and Gospel, however, some changes were brought by some people in the current copies of Torah and Gospel leading to disbelief in the oneness of God and therefore their available copies are not reliable.

The situation is different regarding the Quran as God himself promised to protect the Quran so it has never changed; the first written copy and the current copies of the Quran are the same as the Quran that was delivered to prophet Mohamed peace be upon him.

Indeed, it is We (referring to Allah) who sent down the Qur’an and indeed, We will be its guardian (protecting it from variation).

6:91 Al-An’aam

And they did not appraise Allah with true appraisal when they said, “Allah did not reveal to a human being anything.” Say, “Who revealed the Scripture that Moses brought as light and guidance to the people? You [Jews] make it into pages, disclosing [some of] it and concealing much. And you were taught that which you knew not - neither you nor your fathers.” Say, “Allah [revealed it].” Then leave them in their [empty] discourse, amusing themselves.

4:44 An-Nisaa

Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture (Gospel and Torah), purchasing error [in exchange for it] and wishing you would lose the way?

4:45 An-Nisaa

And Allah is most knowing of your enemies; and sufficient is Allah as an ally, and sufficient is Allah as a helper.

4:46 An-Nisaa

Among the Jews are those who distort words from their [proper] usages and say, “We hear and disobey” and “Hear but be not heard” and “Ra’ina,”(an insult in Hebrew, but in Arabic it means `Listen to us.’) twisting their tongues and defaming the religion. And if they had said [instead], “We hear and obey” and “Wait for us [to understand],” it would have been better for them and more suitable. But Allah has cursed them for their disbelief, so they believe not, except for a few.

4:47 An-Nisaa

O you who were given the Scripture, believe in what We have sent down [to Mohamed], confirming that which is with you, before We obliterate faces and turn them toward their backs or curse them as We cursed the sabbath-breakers. And ever is the decree of Allah accomplished.

2:285 Al-Baqara

The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.”

In the Islamic religion every person (male or female) must seek the knowledge of Quran and Sunnah (Hadiths, sayings, of prophet Mohamed peace be upon him) and also teach it when possible, even to the same level of religious scholars while not being one, and while living ordinary life.

Ayesha bint Abu Bakr (the wife of the prophet Mohamed peace be upon him), used to teach the Islamic religion herself to Muslim men and women alike. She is indeed a great example to follow.

Education was also advisable for slaves since the early years of Islam.

In the following some Hadiths (sayings of the prophet Mohamed peace be upon him) talking about the importance of learning and teaching the Islamic religion to males and females.

Mu’awiyah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah said, “When Allah wishes good for someone, He bestows upon him the understanding of religion.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Riyad as-Salihin 1376

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not fear You, from a soul that is never satisfied, and from a supplication that is not answered.“ (Reported by Muslim)

’Uthman bin ‘Affan (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “The best among you is the one who learns the Qur’an and teaches it.“ [Al-Bukhari].

Riyad as-Salihin 993

Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Three kinds of people will have a double reward: A man from the People of the Book who believes in his Prophet and (also) believes in Muhammad; a slave who discharges properly the duties towards Allah and towards his master; and a man who possesses a slave-girl and teaches her manners, educates her well, and frees her and then marries her.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Finally, it’s advisable to read the Quran in full to develop better understanding about Islam and about being a Muslim. Also, the collection of Hadiths, sayings, of prophet Mohamed peace be upon such as Sahih Bukhari ( https://sunnah.com/bukhari) offers further guidance to be followed.

But if they turn away, then say, “I have warned you of a thunderbolt like the thunderbolt [that struck] ’Aad and Thamud.

41:14 Fussilat

[That occurred] when the messengers had come to them before them and after them, [saying], “Worship not except Allah.” They said, “If our Lord had willed, He would have sent down the angels, so indeed we, in that with which you have been sent, are disbelievers.”

41:15 Fussilat

As for ’Aad, they were arrogant upon the earth without right and said, “Who is greater than us in strength?” Did they not consider that Allah who created them was greater than them in strength? But they were rejecting Our signs.

41:16 Fussilat

So We sent upon them a screaming wind during days of misfortune to make them taste the punishment of disgrace in the worldly life; but the punishment of the Hereafter is more disgracing, and they will not be helped.

41:17 Fussilat

And as for Thamud, We guided them, but they preferred blindness over guidance, so the thunderbolt of humiliating punishment seized them for what they used to earn.

41:18 Fussilat

And We saved those who believed and used to fear Allah.

41:19 Fussilat

And [mention, O Muhammad], the Day when the enemies of Allah will be gathered to the Fire while they are [driven] assembled in rows,

41:20 Fussilat

Until, when they reach it, their hearing and their eyes and their skins will testify against them of what they used to do.

41:21 Fussilat

And they will say to their skins, “Why have you testified against us?” They will say, “We were made to speak by Allah, who has made everything speak; and He created you the first time, and to Him you are returned.

41:22 Fussilat

And you were not covering yourselves, lest your hearing testify against you or your sight or your skins, but you assumed that Allah does not know much of what you do.

41:23 Fussilat

And that was your assumption which you assumed about your Lord. It has brought you to ruin, and you have become among the losers.“

41:24 Fussilat

So [even] if they are patient, the Fire is a residence for them; and if they ask to appease [Allah], they will not be of those who are allowed to appease.

41:25 Fussilat

And We appointed for them companions who made attractive to them what was before them and what was behind them [of sin], and the word has come into effect upon them among nations which had passed on before them of jinn and men. Indeed, they [all] were losers.

41:26 Fussilat

And those who disbelieve say, “Do not listen to this Qur’an and speak noisily during [the recitation of] it that perhaps you will overcome.”

41:27 Fussilat

But We will surely cause those who disbelieve to taste a severe punishment, and We will surely recompense them for the worst of what they had been doing.

41:28 Fussilat

That is the recompense of the enemies of Allah - the Fire. For them therein is the home of eternity as recompense for what they, of Our verses, were rejecting.

41:29 Fussilat

And those who disbelieved will [then] say, “Our Lord, show us those who misled us of the jinn and men [so] we may put them under our feet that they will be among the lowest.”

41:30 Fussilat

Indeed, those who have said, “Our Lord is Allah “ and then remained on a right course - the angels will descend upon them, [saying], “Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised.

41:31 Fussilat

We [angels] were your allies in worldly life and [are so] in the Hereafter. And you will have therein whatever your souls desire, and you will have therein whatever you request [or wish]

41:32 Fussilat

As accommodation from a [Lord who is] Forgiving and Merciful.“

41:33 Fussilat

And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteousness and says, “Indeed, I am of the Muslims.”

41:34 Fussilat

And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend.

41:35 Fussilat

But none is granted it except those who are patient, and none is granted it except one having a great portion [of good].

41:36 Fussilat

And if there comes to you from Satan an evil suggestion, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

41:37 Fussilat

And of His signs are the night and day and the sun and moon. Do not prostrate to the sun or to the moon, but prostate to Allah, who created them, if it should be Him that you worship.

41:38 Fussilat

But if they are arrogant - then those who are near your Lord exalt Him by night and by day, and they do not become weary.

41:39 Fussilat

And of His signs is that you see the earth stilled, but when We send down upon it rain, it shakes and grows. Indeed, He who has given it life is the Giver of Life to the dead. Indeed, He is over all things competent.

41:40 Fussilat

Indeed, those who inject deviation into Our verses are not concealed from Us. So, is he who is cast into the Fire better or he who comes secure on the Day of Resurrection? Do whatever you will; indeed, He (God, Allah) is Seeing what you do.
