The First 100

\[H*ello there, Reader. Since the *[*2nd Edition*](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HN8CRLSF/)* came out this week in digital and 6x9 paperback, I’ve still been documenting and investigating - plus a little typo-fixing. I believe the Framework holds. If it does, these will be an interesting thing to hold onto.*] **100 Personally Signed and Numbered Copies of *Redacted Science, Second Edition - Free*** ### **Thirty Years. One Book. A Hundred Invitations.** In 1995, my life changed in ways I could not have anticipated. What began as a medical crisis evolved into a thirty-year investigation of human physiology, fungal biology, metabolic regulation, and the limitations of modern medical understanding. I wasn’t trained as a physician or a microbiologist. I’m a chemical engineer with an MBA who spent more than two decades working in medical informatics and data architecture. I approached my illness the way an engineer approaches a system that isn’t behaving according to its specifications. I collected data. I examined the available explanations. I looked for patterns. And when the explanations failed, I kept looking. Over the years, that investigation grew into something I never intended to write: *Redacted Science*. The newly completed second edition is approximately 613 pages \[*with some typos I’m still working on*], combining my medical history, clinical observations, laboratory findings, historical research, and a proposed biological framework that challenges several assumptions about the relationship between mammals and a familiar fungal organism, that organism is *Candida albicans*. Today, the Redacted Science Research Initiative encompasses 23 scientific papers, including three case studies, exploring the proposed framework from molecular biology through mammalian coevolution and chronic disease. And now I want scientists to read it. Not necessarily to believe it. **To examine it. To consider it.** **The Framework** At the center of Redacted Science is a hypothesis that *Candida albicans*, conventionally understood primarily as a commensal organism and opportunistic pathogen, possesses a much more extensive relationship with mammalian physiology than its conventional classification suggests. The framework describes the organism as a **biochemical computer**. This is not a metaphor for intelligence or consciousness. It is a proposed description of biological information processing. *C. albicans* possesses documented capabilities for sensing environmental conditions, integrating biochemical signals, switching metabolic and morphological states, communicating with other organisms, and maintaining phenotypic states across time. Among the molecular systems examined in the framework are: * The Cyr1/cAMP-PKA signaling architecture, which integrates metabolic and environmental inputs into fungal morphological decisions. * Arachidonic acid metabolism, fungal prostaglandin production, and proposed interactions with mammalian endocannabinoid signaling. * Quorum sensing through molecules including farnesol and tyrosol. * Metabolic substrate sensing, fungal phenotypic switching, and chromatin-mediated state maintenance. * Cross-kingdom signaling involving host immune, endocrine, metabolic, and neurological pathways. These biological mechanisms have substantial foundations in published scientific literature. The larger proposition is considerably more ambitious. I hypothesize that these capabilities developed through prolonged mammalian-fungal coevolution into a distributed regulatory relationship developed through reciprocal selection, and that disruptions of this relationship may contribute to certain chronic diseases. That evolutionary and physiological interpretation remains a hypothesis. The presence of individual molecular mechanisms does not, by itself, establish the broader framewor*k. \[I’m simply not qualified to ****prove**** coevolution. I’ll do my best to point you in the right direction so you can, though*] But it creates something important. **Questions that can be investigated experimentally.** For example, does fungal colonization density or phenotypic state predict specific patterns of host endocannabinoid and prostaglandin signaling? Can those relationships be distinguished from ordinary immune responses or bacterial microbiome effects? Do organism-state measurements identify meaningful subgroups within conditions presently classified as unrelated chronic diseases? These are questions for laboratories, not declarations to be settled by an author. The scientific papers develop additional predictions, possible experiments, and proposed mechanisms in considerably greater detail. ### **Why a Book?** Scientific papers are useful for examining individual mechanisms, but they aren’t always well suited to explaining how a person arrived at an unfamiliar hypothesis. *Redacted Science* tells that story. It documents the original medical events, the clinical observations, the mistakes, the unexpected transitions, the laboratory investigations, and the gradual development of the framework. I have kept every version of my work online so that you can see it developer over time. There is also a substantial amount of personal reflection, humor, frustration, and occasionally some language that might not survive a traditional academic editor. \[*I’m not particularly worried about that.*] The second edition is not a conventional scientific textbook. It is a longitudinal personal account accompanied by a developing scientific interpretation \[*it goes quite deep. I don’t expect to be right about everything, but I drilled as far as I could*]. Readers can evaluate the observations independently of the explanations I propose for them. A framework doesn’t become correct because its author experienced something extraordinary \[*but it sure provides a nice longitudinal case study to exam with labs*]. Nor does an unconventional hypothesis become incorrect merely because its author lacks the expected professional credentials. \[*I’m not a mainstream researcher. I’m a guy that has been through some things and seen some science that doesn’t seem to be around anymore, but literally saved my life and told me ahead of time what to expect*] Evidence, mechanisms, experiments, and time will decide. ### **Introducing The First 100** I am offering **100 free, personally signed and individually numbered 6x9 paperback copies of *Redacted Science, Second Edition*** to qualified scientific and medical professionals. Exactly 100 copies will be distributed as part of this initiative. *#1 has already been claimed by a request from my Cleveland Clinic Diagnostician.* Each will be signed and numbered: **001/100 through 100/100** The purpose is simple: place the work in the hands of people equipped to evaluate its scientific claims. ### **Who Is Eligible?** The initiative is open to researchers and medical professionals with appropriate credentials, including: * PhDs working in microbiology, mycology, immunology, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, physiology, neuroscience, endocrinology, evolutionary biology, or related disciplines. * Physicians holding MD or DO degrees. * Independent and retired researchers with relevant professional qualifications. * Researchers in other disciplines whose expertise intersects with the proposed framework. I have already identified and contacted a number of scientists whose work relates to these questions. Those individuals will receive personal invitations, with copies *reserved* for them. The remaining copies will be available to qualified applicants who discover the initiative through this announcement or other channels. ### **What Am I Asking in Return?** Nothing \[*Nothing*]. There is no charge for the book or shipping. There is no requirement to review it, cite it, promote it, or respond to me. There is certainly no expectation of agreement. If you believe the framework is incorrect, that is a perfectly acceptable conclusion. If you identify an error in the biochemical reasoning, I would welcome knowing about it. If you can add to it, that works too. If you see a testable prediction worth investigating, even better. And if the book simply sits on your shelf until some future research makes a particular question relevant, that is fine too. **The book is a gift, not a contract.** ### **How to Request a Copy** Qualified researchers and medical professionals interested in receiving one of the remaining copies can contact me at: [**\[*THIS IS WHERE YOU CLICK TO REQUEST A FREE BOOK*\]**](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeeBsXo0cqRN0UmTXBwubTiJCYc5RJx8BWB5uwfho9arrLgKQ/viewform)

Please include your name, professional credentials, institutional affiliation if applicable, and a brief description of your research or clinical background.

The Scientific Record

The book is one part of a much larger, publicly available research archive.

The foundational papers, subsequent hypotheses, clinical applications, and case studies are available through the Redacted Science Research Initiative.

The framework’s major components include:

Paper A: Candida albicans as a Biochemical Computer
The organism’s molecular signaling, genetic architecture, metabolic capabilities, and proposed role as a biological information-processing system.

Paper B: The Saline Oscillation Hypothesis
A proposed evolutionary explanation for the development of the organism-host relationship, including electrolyte regulation, endocannabinoid signaling, and mammalian coevolution.

The Stuck Program Mode Hypothesis
An exploration of whether certain chronic diseases may represent persistent biological operating states rather than independent pathological processes.

The Longitudinal** Case**** Studies**
Clinical histories, laboratory measurements, and observations documenting the physiological events that motivated the investigation.

The archive includes proposed experiments and falsifiable predictions intended to distinguish the framework from competing explanations.

The work is available for independent examination regardless of whether anyone accepts a physical book.

Why Only 100?

There is a practical reason.

I am personally financing the printing and distribution, and my ongoing medical condition limits how much administrative work I can undertake.

One hundred is a manageable number [maybe? The whole existential thing makes that questionable for me. You might not understand that until you read the book].

There is also a historical reason.

This is the first organized effort to place the completed second edition directly into the hands of a defined group of scientific and medical professionals.

I want that distribution to be deliberate and documented.

Each signed copy will carry a unique number. A private registry will record its distribution, preserving the history of the initiative without publicly disclosing recipients’ identities.

An Invitation, Not a Demand

I’ve spent more than thirty years trying to understand what happened to my body.

Along the way, that investigation led into areas of biology I had never imagined studying.

I don’t expect a microbiologist to agree with my interpretation of fungal physiology simply because I’ve lived through an unusual medical history.

I don’t expect an endocrinologist to abandon established models because I’ve proposed a different one.

And I certainly don’t expect a scientist to accept a hypothesis merely because an engineer has assembled an argument for it.

What I hope is that some will find the questions sufficiently interesting to examine. Let me put it this way: if a model is not contradicted by science, what is it?

The individual mechanisms can be investigated. The proposed evolutionary relationships can be challenged. The predictions can be tested.

Some may fail. [I guarantee I get some stuff mixed up or wrong]

Some may survive.

Perhaps something unexpected will emerge. [Perhaps? Trust me, I didn’t do all this for perhaps. I did not live Normal through all of this for perhaps. Hop on the train and see where it goes. Unexpected is knocking on the door.]

The First 100 is my invitation to begin that examination.

If you’re a qualified researcher or medical professional, I’d be pleased to send you a copy.

And if you’re simply a curious reader, you’re welcome to explore the work, follow the research, and share it with someone whose expertise might help answer the questions it raises.

Thirty years brought me to this point.

Let’s see where the science takes us.
