BIP110 Why Limit Bitcoin?…Rant

We need Bitcoin as an efficient P2P money chain, controlled by the community not an elite group.
BIP110 Why Limit Bitcoin?…Rant

I think bitcoin could benefit from smart contracts, extra data. The idea of people storing illegal content on the blockchain being a threat is unjustified to say the least. Meanwhile in the crypto space, this has never been a critical issue.

I am running BIP110 simply because I can. We have to preserve the ability of node runners to put their foot down. This is a battle for freedom. The freedom you do not use is not a freedom at all.

It seems the Bitcoin Core is not doing a good job overall. The quality of the product is horrible. I found out this the hard way, as I was trying to setup a system to offer a bitcoin on-chain service utilising Bitcoin Core. This is not a good team to take things forward. So I am running BIP110 to signal change is in order.

I would love to have smart contracts on Bitcoin to offer services directly onchain instead of having to run a service off-chain (less secure + cost). However, the size of the blockchain growing is critical issue that cannot be ignored. So I would rather have an efficient decentralised chain focused on money transactions, than a chain that does everything.

Currently, it takes a couple of days with 1 Gb/s connection to setup the node. This is already horrible. Imagine how worse this would be if they get their way and add even more data to bitcoin chain.

Rootstock is also a way to have smart-contracts utilising Bitcoin. So the solution is already here. No need to reinvent the wheel and mess up Bitcoin.

In conclusion, the real attacks on bitcoin are trying to:

  1. make its size larger inaccessible to the average user.
  2. control the code through a corrupt “elite”.

I do not necessary agree with a chain split. We can continue the current pruning without a fork/split for a long time.
