In 1970s California, a self-proclaimed Archangel issued a prophecy to her followers: aliens—or as she called them, “the space brothers”—were on the way to rescue the flock from a doomed world.
This is the hard to believe but 100% true story of the Unarius Academy of Science. On June 20th, we’re bringing a new documentary exploring their incredible story, Welcome Space Brothers,** to Hello Lincoln for a special screening—with director Jodi Wille and a handful of Unarians there to help us celebrate.
Formed in El Cajon in the ‘70s, the Unarians weren’t your typical UFO cult. Boasting “fourth-dimensional science,” the group became a media spectacle, creating vivid past-life psycho-dramas that they aired on public access television, spreading their message and making their leader, Ruth “Uriel” Norman, an oddball star.
On June 20th, Public Record Online presents Welcome Space Brothers** in downtown Phoenix. Director Jodi Wille is known for her incisive and empathetic films about outsider spirituality, like 2013’s The Source Family. Welcome Space Brothers is distributed by SpectreVision and produced by Elijah Wood, Chris Lord and Phil Miller, and electronic musician Moby.
Wille will be there with the Unarians as we record a live podcast on-stage, but that’s not all: we’re presenting a double-feature event, including a rare screening of the Unarian’s classic film, 1980’s stunning visual extravaganza The Arrival.**
