You might think that death metal and ambient music are worlds apart, but a new festival in Tucson aims to dissolve the artificial barriers separating the genres, pairing new age legends with some of the most dynamic underground metal acts working.

This August, the Soundquest Festival is coming to La Rosa in Tucson, Arizona, on August 28-30th. Spearheaded by ambient composer Steve Roach, the three-day festival also features sci-fi death metal band Blood Incantation and doom metal band Pallbearer.
In an interview published at publicrecord.online, Roach says that while on the surface the festival represents a genre-mash up, all the artists share a belief in the “power of transcendent, primordial sound.”
The festival also features performances by artists like Giuseppe Ottaviani, Soriah, Karima Walker, Serena Gabriel, and more. Located in a former Benedictine monastery, La Rosa offers a unique space to experience this blend of sounds.
