British Columbia NDP Leader Eby Floats New Shipyard in BC, Conservatives Tax Cuts
The leaders of the two major parties running in British Columbia’s election pitched business leaders with infrastructure commitments, including a new shipyard and promises of tax cuts. NDP Leader David Eby and Conservative interim leader Lorne Doerkson appeared at a Greater Vancouver Board of Trade event on Tuesday along with Green Leader Emily Lowan to speak for 10 minutes each and then take pre-selected questions in advance of the Oct. 24 election. Eby says his party would build a new shipyard in partnership with the federal government, so new B.C. ferries and other vessels, such as icebreakers, can be built in British Columbia.

Two Roller Coasters at Canada’s Wonderland Closed After Fatal Incident in Georgia
Canada’s Wonderland closed two of its roller coasters on Oct. 12 following a fatal accident on a similar ride at an amusement park in the United States earlier that day. A spokesperson for Canada’s Wonderland said the Leviathan and Behemoth coasters at its amusement park in Vaughan, Ont., were closed “out of an abundance of caution,” after a man fell to his death from a Six Flags roller coaster in Georgia. “We have temporarily closed similar attractions across our parks. The safety of our guests and team members is our highest priority,” spokesperson Grace Peacock told The Epoch Times in an Oct. 13 statement.
Poilievre Visiting Detroit to Urge Tariff-Free Auto Trade
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre headed to the United States on Oct. 13 to promote tariff-free trade in the auto sector, meeting with industry stakeholders and making media appearances. Poilievre told an Oct. 13 press conference that he and members of the Conservative caucus from the Windsor area are meeting with officials from a General Motors plant in Detroit as well as representatives from a Ford plant in nearby Dearborn, Mich. Poilievre also met with members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers during the trip. In an interview with CNN, he said by “knocking down the tariff barriers between our two countries, we could make these vehicles more affordably.”
