Australia Launches World’s 1st Battery-Powered Self-Unloading Bulk Carrier

The MV Yampu, the world’s first battery-powered self-unloading bulk carrier, has commenced operations in South Australia. This 125-meter vessel boasts a capacity of 11,900 deadweight tonnes and will transport limestone, significantly reducing emissions by an estimated 40 percent and increasing capacity by 35 percent compared to its predecessor. Its large battery capacity, equivalent to powering 448 homes daily, supports the supply chain for cement production vital for infrastructure development.
