Maltese business tycoon Yorgen Fenech, heir to a property empire, was acquitted on September 2 of ordering the murder of investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. Caruana Galizia was killed by a car bomb in 2017, and Fenech was indicted in 2021 on charges of complicity and criminal conspiracy, accused of masterminding and paying for the attack. A court in Valletta found him not guilty of complicity in murder and criminal association to commit murder by an 8–1 jury margin.
