Federal Gas Tax Holiday Extended Until January 2027
The federal government is extending its suspension of the excise tax on gasoline and diesel until early 2027, after the tax holiday was set to expire on Sept. 7. The federal fuel excise tax will remain suspended until Jan. 31, 2027, before being reinstated at half its regular rate from Feb. 1 to March 31. It will return to its full rate on April 1.
The Canadian federal government has extended the suspension of the excise tax on gasoline and diesel fuel until January 31, 2027. This tax holiday, initially set to expire on September 7, will continue to provide savings of 10 cents per litre on gasoline and four cents per litre on diesel. Following the full suspension, the tax will be reinstated at half its regular rate from February 1 to March 31, 2027, before returning to the full rate on April 1.
