Croatian President Says Mladic State Funeral Would Close Door to EU For Serbia
‘The glorification of war criminals has no place in an EU member country, nor in a candidate country,’ EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos said.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic stated that if Serbia proceeds with a state funeral for convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic, it would jeopardize Belgrade’s EU accession. Mladic, who was convicted of genocide and war crimes committed during the Bosnian War, died in UN custody. Serbian officials had previously suggested Mladic would receive state honors, a move strongly opposed by Croatia and the EU.
