More than 100 current and former UNRWA staff members have been referred to the U.S. State Department by USAID’s Office of Inspector General. These individuals are being investigated for alleged participation in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel or for their connections to Hamas. The State Department will review the evidence to determine if suspension or debarment is necessary, which could prevent the individuals from engaging in business with the U.S. federal government.
