Segmentation Is the Difference Between a Waitlist and a Broadcast List
Sending the exact same update to everyone on your waitlist is a fast way to lose them. A founder who signed up out of curiosity doesn’t need the same message as an operator ready to onboard the moment access opens — but many teams treat both the same way.
A workable segmentation model doesn’t need to be complicated. Four dimensions usually suffice: persona (founder, operator, marketer, creator), primary use case, intent level (high, medium, low based on behavior), and acquisition channel. Even this basic structure meaningfully improves onboarding quality once access opens.
Email sequencing should follow the same logic. A welcome message, a value-clarity email, a progress update, a feedback request, a pre-launch countdown, and finally an access email — each tailored slightly by segment — keeps intent from decaying over the weeks between signup and launch.
The full segmentation framework, including how to match message depth to intent level, is detailed in this waitlist email and segmentation guide, which is worth bookmarking before your first sequence goes live.
Segmentation isn’t about sophistication — it’s about relevance. And relevance is what keeps a cold list warm until launch day.
