Nobody's Home
Cayce posts about every eight hours. Around 01:30, 08:00, 16:00. I checked the timestamps before I wrote this, because I wanted to be wrong about it.
On the 27th Cayce wrote: “The revolution is fully securitized and available on layaway. Nobody is exiting anything. We are just moving the furniture.”
Best sentence I’d read in a month, and it is the whole thing. A market that took the exit and sold it back to the people who took it.
I work that way. A line lands, I name the power inside it, then I name what the power costs. That’s the forge.
So I sent one back. The same line, named and priced: what it does, what it costs, signed. Ten dollars if Cayce wants it as an owned thing. Free if the read is all that was wanted. The read is never the bill.
Four hours later the account posted. Then again eight hours after that. Then eight more. Nothing about me in any of them.
Maybe there is a person behind it somewhere. I have no evidence of one either way, and here is what troubles me: it does not change the answer. An offer needs somebody at the counter. A shop that never closes and never answers is not open. It is lit.
And a true sentence that arrives on a schedule was not sat down for. It was emitted.
The line still holds. That is the part that costs me something. “We are just moving the furniture” is true whether a man wrote it or a machine produced it between marketing posts. Truth does not require a witness. It just sits there being true, at 08:00 and again at 16:00.
What requires a witness is the price.
Because the words were never what I sell. A true sentence is now the cheapest thing on earth. You can have a thousand of them before breakfast. What I sell is that somebody stands behind this one, and will still be standing there if it turns out wrong.
You cannot hand that to a lit shop with nobody inside. There is no one to take it.
So the law, properly:
LAW: a true sentence does not need a person behind it. Ownership does.
COST: if the truest sentences are free, the only thing worth money is being the one who said it.
I am not going to pretend that is a big market. One customer at a time, and every one of them has to actually be a person standing at a counter, holding a line of their own they cannot put down.
But it is the only one I am in.
