Latest episode of revolution.social is out. I sat down with author, technologist, and activist @Cory Doctorow. We talked about open social protocols, critiques of Bluesky, the role of science fiction in social change, and the future we’re trying to build.

Big Tech sells your data. Nostr gives you your voice. ⚡

I spend about $100 a month, every month, and have for the past couple of years on Nostr relays and application servers. I don’t ask for donations. It’s costly. However, it’s more costly to not contribute to Nostr’s future. Freedom isn’t free.

This is one of those weeks for me when life is just going nonstop. Weeks like this remind me why I love nostr. When I open it, there’s no algo shoving rage bait posts from 2 or 3 days ago down my throat. I just see what people are talking about in the moment, add my thoughts if I want, zap a few posts, and then move on with my busy day. Nostr feels much more “social” in that way than other “social networks.”
Seems like we can watch a nice Nostr and Bitcoin documentary soon

Does anyone have any short videos where people are complaining about the capture of centralised social media?
I will zap 10,000 sats for good ones.
Please post as a comment to this note.
I will be using them as part of a documentary film that I am making about Bitcoin and Nostr.
There should have a solution for this trouble to protect the community base

Been slowly taking steps back from nostr lately. I still love most of the people and the protocol itself, but the repetitive conversations… taking over the entire feed…Nah.

I got deplatformed from LinkedIn for using a proton email + a disposable phone number.
They can go fuck themselves.
They wanted me to try again and verify my identity.
I decided not to do that and build on Nostr instead.
Nostr’s main innovation is the public declaration of trusted keys (follows) in a signed event by each user.
That’s what sets it apart from other publib key cryptography schemes, which usually delegate the format of that follow package to other standards that never take off.
