I opened nostr today for the first time in 3 years because of this. And I’m extremely disappointed at the state of things. This ecosystem could have been so great by now.

The devs behind nitter received a cease and desist from X. nitter is open source software that allows people to see posts on X without an account, without JavaScript, basically in private. If nostr wasn’t so Bitcoin maxi focused, it would be a good place for people disillusioned by X to come to.

Instead, Bitcoin maximalists like @npub1...jh6w6 have made sure nostr is mostly a place for Bitcoin maximalists, with tons of native features designed just for Bitcoin, with niche Bitcoin features only diehard maxis care about and will use.

Bitcoin maxis are great at fucking up good ideas.

Actually, that PR you linked there is a perfect example of the glass ceiling I’m talking about. Why isn’t that PR merged and that NIP made official? If the major apps support it, it should be a no brained right?

Optimistic attitude. I still am annoyed at how difficult it was to figure out how to use this feature in Amethyst, it’s extremely unintuitive. But of course it is extremely intuitive how to connect a Cashu wallet. But fair maybe the direction is shifting slowly toward rational development beyond the maxi niche. Slowly.

Bitcoin maxis hold a glass ceiling on the NIPs process

This might have been true at one point, but no longer is. Most of the major developers have soured on maxi attitudes, especially because of the general broken nature of LN. The watershed moment was most major clients implementing Payment Targets, which support Monero:

https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/pull/2119

Virtually all of the clients who implemented NIP-A3 payment types have had their developers quite viciously criticize Lightning. Vitor Pamploma of Amethyst says that the past decade of Bitcoin development has been a lie. That’s the most popular client. Alex Gleason, of Ditto, has also made extremely cogent criticisms of LN. This is why Nostr is good for Monero, because actually making smart people regularly interact with Lightning payments lead to a widespread agreement that LN was retarded and the present pack of maxi influencers are scammers.

Truth alone triumphs!

I prefer to keep Twitter posts off of Nostr. Life is better that way.

It’s an open protocol where Bitcoin maxis hold a glass ceiling on the NIPs process limiting its potential and reach beyond the maxipad class. There should be more Monero bros here. There should be more content here outside the Bitcoin maxi ecosystem. That’s a problem that maxis helped create.

I like the idea of nostr. I would like to see it become greater.

This is the only source I can find on it after a couple minutes: https://simplifiedprivacy.com/monero-attack-nostr

I definitely hold him accountable for past statements unless he actively demonstrates regret or an apology or something.

Okay well, if that is true, I am not going to hold everyone infinitely to account for past statements.

Nostr works better for Bitcoin as an emergent phenomenon, in that everything that is decentralized and based on cryptographic identity ends up being good for Monero. All the Bitcoin maxis are promoted by Twitter heavily in an algorithmic fashion. I am banned from Twitter permanently, and aggressively removed from the platform. Freedom is good for Monero! An open protocol is good for Monero! The NIPs related to Lightning transactions are a ghost town. The entire zap economy is an absolutely pathetic $300 a day. It’s completely irrelevant. Bitcoiners make features the market does not want, does not need, and has not asked for, and of course nobody ends up using them.

I’ll check out nosdag that looks cool.

I can’t see how nostr works better for Monero bros when there are a ton of NIPs for Bitcoin-specific features that are integrated into the protocol. There is nothing like that for Monero. People like fiatjaf gatekeep the NIPs process by being hostile in PR’s like this: https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/pull/1934#issuecomment-2916849701

I don’t know what he’s said about Monero. I am exclusively a Monero bro. There’s an XMR address in my profile, I use and support the Monero Nostr clients like nosdag.com etc. Nostr is a protocol and it does what it does. I don’t like Lightning, it is a waste of time and life, I simply don’t use it. Nostr works better for Monero bros than it does for maxis, imo.

He vocally supports the eCash fork 😂 and has said the things he’s said about Monero et al in the past. What a moron.

Fiatjaf isn’t a maxi at all. He personally vocally supports the eCash fork with drivechains, which maxis hate. He opposes Lightning vocally as well. You’re barking up the wrong tree here. I agree completely that too much focus has been given to Lightning and zaps, as a result of Matt Odell coming along with Jack Dorsey’s money to shit up the place. I think we can absolutely do better. But maxis are like locusts who will move in and consume all the resources to make useless Bitcoin Ponzi schemes and VC bonfires and then move on. It’s up to the people that come after to till the land and make something good, and a ton of the people responsible for this situation have fucked off back to Twitter.
