Why a Local Relay Changes the Game for Nostr Builders

Running a local Nostr relay might seem unnecessary at first. After all, the Nostr network already provides dozens of public relays capable of storing and distributing events. But for builders — especially those working on tools like Continuum — a local relay can fundamentally change the development experience. It turns the network into something predictable, testable, and much easier to reason about. Today I began exploring what it would mean to treat a local relay not just as a debugging tool, but as a permanent part of the architecture.

"No, Satan. Christ has died for me, and I am forgiven!" Oculi 2026

The house must not be empty. Christ must dwell there. He must sit on the throne. And He does this by His Word and Sacraments. He comes to you in Baptism and claims you as His own. He comes to you in Absolution and drives the accuser out with the declaration: “You are forgiven!” He comes to you in His Supper and feeds you with His own Body and Blood so that He dwells in you and you in Him. “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8). You are not an empty house. You are the dwelling place of the living God.

Running a Local Nostr Relay in Docker

Today I successfully ran a Nostr relay locally in Docker with pubkey whitelisting enabled. The relay currently runs only on my machine, which makes it ideal for debugging and development while also laying the groundwork for a future always-on relay.

Improving the Relay Publish Logic

Publishing events across multiple relays requires careful handling of success and failure conditions. Today I improved the relay manager logic in Continuum to more accurately evaluate publishing results.

Identity Before Platforms

Platform accounts have dominated the internet for decades. Cryptographic identity offers a fundamentally different model where individuals control their own digital identity.
