I spend about $100 a month, every month, and have for the past couple of years on Nostr relays and application servers. I don’t ask for donations. It’s costly. However, it’s more costly to not contribute to Nostr’s future. Freedom isn’t free.

This is one of those weeks for me when life is just going nonstop. Weeks like this remind me why I love nostr. When I open it, there’s no algo shoving rage bait posts from 2 or 3 days ago down my throat. I just see what people are talking about in the moment, add my thoughts if I want, zap a few posts, and then move on with my busy day. Nostr feels much more “social” in that way than other “social networks.”

They wanted me to try again and verify my identity.

Calling Nostr users “nerds” is like calling Navy SEALs “gym bros.” People on X and other platforms fundamentally misunderstand what they’re looking at.

A nerd is someone with narrow interests and poor social calibration. What you’re actually encountering here are polymath-level intellects who can seamlessly transition from cryptographic proofs to economic theory to philosophical frameworks, often within a single thread.

These are people operating at cognitive levels that would make your college professors weep. If that intimidates them enough to reduce us to “nerds,” that says everything about their intellectual ceiling and nothing about ours.

1. Plebs vs. Zombies - New Tool

Plebs vs. Zombies is a Nostr utility that helps you keep your follow list healthy by identifying and cleaning up dormant accounts. Over time, inactive npubs can pile up like “zombies,” bloating your following list, consuming bandwidth, and putting extra load on relays. This tool makes it easy to spot those inactive users and manage them, so your Nostr experience stays light, efficient, and alive.

2. Amber - v4.0.1

Amber is a Nostr event signer for Android that keeps users’ nsec keys secure in a dedicated app, ensuring safe event signing. This release fixes reproducibility issues with added README instructions, improves validation when sending events from different users, ensures proper reject responses when using intents, corrects field updates on the edit permissions screen, and updates the project to Gradle 9. This is the latest release, and there was also the release of v4.0.1-pre1 last week.

3. Coop - v0.2.7

Coop is a simple, fast, and reliable Nostr client for secure messaging across all platforms. This release improves handling of user profiles, introduces the ability to resend failed messages, and includes a refactor of event fetching for better performance and stability. This is the latest release, and there was also the release of v0.2.6 last week.

4. Bitchat - 1.3.4

Bitchat is a decentralized peer-to-peer messaging app with dual transport architecture, combining local Bluetooth mesh networks for offline communication and the internet-based Nostr protocol for global reach, all without accounts, phone numbers, or central servers. The latest release, v1.3.4, known as the “tor release,” enables Tor by default to enhance IP address privacy, improves Nostr relay error handling, and delivers numerous bug fixes for a more secure and stable messaging experience.
