Nostr Ecosystem: Recent Launches and New Tools Bitcoin block height: 931827 (January 2026)

Summary (Block 931827) Over the past one to two months, the Nostr ecosystem has continued to expand beyond basic social clients. New tools have launched that focus on website and app creation (Shakespeare), creative exploration of the protocol (Grimoire), decentralised authentication (Nostr Authenticator), video publishing (Plebs), messaging reliability (NYM), and safer key management (Aegis). Rather than just adding new timelines, recent development shows Nostr maturing into a broader protocol for identity, publishing, media, and application infrastructure.

HackerSpace: Students Take on Bitcoin and Minecraft Challenge

Students from Boneo Primary’s 5A and 5B classes have been exploring digital finance, security, and teamwork through a Bitcoin project at the Boneo HackerSpace. With Jade hardware wallets donated by Blockstream and sats from the Digital Playhouse Foundation, each class set up a “3-of-5” multisig wallet to learn about secure digital transactions and shared decision-making. Using Minecraft, students created creative backups of their recovery phrases and keys, turning cybersecurity into an engaging treasure hunt. The project wrapped up with teams deciding how to use their funds, from buying classroom equipment to donating to the Royal Children’s Hospital, combining technology, creativity, and real-world problem-solving in one hands-on learning experience.

Raising the Bar for Public Office: Proving Intelligence Through Bitcoin and Asymmetric Keys

To raise the standard for public office, candidates should be required to stake 100Ksats and prove control of the associated private key throughout their term. This simple Bitcoin-based protocol filters for intelligence, responsibility, and long-term thinking—offering verifiable proof of integrity, not just promises. No central databases, no complex systems—just Bitcoin and asymmetric encryption as a new baseline for trust in leadership.

THE School of Bitcoin Migrates to Consensus21.School: A New Chapter in Open-Source Education.

The School of Bitcoin (TSOBTC) is transitioning to Consensus21.School, consolidating all initiatives under one banner to reinforce its commitment to open-source education. This move resolves confusion with another entity and aligns fully with decentralised, community-driven learning. All existing courses, programs, and collaborations, including V4V Open Lessons, the Decentralised Autonomous Education System (DAES), and the Plan B Network partnership, will continue under Consensus21.School. DAES remains a platform for funding and mentoring Bitcoin projects, while the Plan B Network collaboration ensures ongoing Bitcoin education. Consensus21.School will drive innovation in peer-to-peer learning, Bitcoin, Nostr, and decentralised technologies, inviting educators, students, and contributors to help shape the future of open financial education. This transition marks an evolution, not just a rebranding, strengthening its mission of self-sovereign, permissionless education.

Nostr *IS* Bitcoin: The Layer 3 That Ends the Old Internet

Nostr IS Bitcoin: The Layer 3 That Ends the Old Internet The internet today is controlled by centralised platforms that dictate access to identity, communication, and finance. Bitcoin disrupted this model by decentralising money. Now, Nostr extends Bitcoin as a Layer 3, providing a decentralised system for identity, communication, and coordination. Unlike traditional social media, Nostr isn’t a platform—it’s a protocol that enables self-sovereign identity. Your Nostr key isn’t just a username; it’s your passport to the new internet, interoperable with Bitcoin and Lightning for seamless payments. This eliminates the need for permissioned accounts, making censorship impossible and rendering platforms obsolete. People still think in terms of Web 2.0, asking for “decentralised Twitter” instead of realising that Nostr is much bigger than social media—it’s the foundation of a new, permissionless internet. The infrastructure is already here, and the shift is inevitable. Bitcoin decentralised money. Nostr decentralises identity and communication. The old internet is over.
